The Family

In 1981, the two brothers YVON & PASCAL TABORDET took over the family vineyard in the Verdigny district of SANCERRE. Pascal, and his wife, MARIE-LAURE, who works full-time in the vineyard, have a son Marius and a daughter Aurore.

It is MARIUS TABORDET who now runs the domaine, along with his father Pascal and cousin Gaël. Marius overseas 41 acres of prime vineyard property, with 30 acres in Pouilly-Fumé, 6 acres of Sancerre Blanc and 5 acres of Sancerre Rouge & Rosé, divided between their two wineries.

The Vineyard

The family carefully works the soils and uses as little intervention as possible. Wine from the three different terroirs are kept separate, then carefully blended to emphasize roundness from the terres blanches, florality from thecaillottes and an underlying mineral tension from thesilex. Musts are lightly clarified and there is no malolactic fermentation. There is a 5 to 6-month maturation, during which time the lees are brought up from the bottom of the tank to the surface for a few minutes, which lends richness and balance to the wines.

The Winemaking Philosophy

"We cannot make a good wine with bad grapes", states Didier RAIMBAULT.

"Theres no secret to our wines quality, Marius TABORDET asserts, It all happens on the vine. It's a case of the perfect match between terroir and grape varietal."
